Check Your Back Flow When In Doubt With Cleanliness Of The Tap Water
Contaminated water is hazardous to your health
. It can cause lots of diseases. Thus, it is always paramount that your drinking water is always clean and safe. You always believe that the water coming from your tap is clean and safe. Well, this is not always true. Even tap water can be dirty, unclean and contaminated.
Very few people know about the back flow of water. This happens when the outlet of the dirty water becomes blocked. The dirty water will revert to your water system instead of being discharged into the sewer system. This waste water will be a part of the water that comes out of your faucet. Your tap water then becomes dirty and possibly full of chemical toxins and disease-carrying germs.
The water from your faucet is supposed to come from a clean source. The used water from the toilet, sink or bathroom had been designed to travel through the waste piping into the sewage tank. The back flow preventer stops the waste water from merging with the clean water. This is the method to protect the sources of clean water; they should be installed with backflow preventers in the valves and taps.
How does backflow happen?
Normally, the water is pushed forward by the high pressure emanating from the main line. The strong water pressure will cause the water to flow out of the faucets and shower head. With leaks, frozen pipes, main breaks and other water system problems, a loss of water pressure will occur. The sudden diminishing pressure will make the dirty water flow into the supply line. This is backflow. As a result, the clean and dirty water will mix up for contaminated water flowing from the faucets and shower heads.
What are backflow preventers?
Backflow preventers are special equipments that will prevent the dirty water to flow to the clean water supply. There are different kinds of preventers such as double-check valves, vacuum breakers, air gaps, and reduced pressure detectors. You can choose any of these but the simplest type is the air gap style.
The air gap will provide a break such that dirty water cannot flow into the faucet. In a sink, the mouth of your faucet is situated above the sink. When the sink is full, the water will cause an overflow in the sink rim thus spilling the water into the ground. Water cannot rise to the sink faucet except when the water reaches the level of sink faucet.
Backflow preventers are composed of many valves and detection devices. These parts had to be maintained and regularly tested to ensure that backflow of dirty water is prevented. You can employ a service provider for this purpose. The regular maintenance and check up to be implemented by the backflow prevention service provider will ensure that every drop of water flowing from your faucet is clean and safe to drink.
