These days, electric golf carts are the most preferred ones. Battery is the main part of the vehicle so that it needs utmost care. Regular maintenance of the battery is to be done to keep it in the best condition. Even your game of golf could get delayed due to a weak battery. If you ever face a situation of replacing the battery, then here are some suggestions.

Always wear goggles, gloves or a protective clothing of any sort before handling batteries. The acids inside the cells of battery can be dangerous and injurious.

First of all check the physical condition of the battery. Check whether all the terminals are connected properly. Test out whether the terminals are free from dirt, fluid and corrosion. If the battery casing is broken or subject to dents, then it should be replaced. Also check whether the vent caps are tightly screwed in.

Clean the top of the battery casing with a mixed solution of baking soda and distilled water, in the ratio 1Tbsp: 8 ounce water. Top of the battery can be cleaned using this mixture and a clean cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry with a clean cloth.

Now disconnect the terminals of the battery from it connections. Clean the terminals and cable clamps using clamp cleaner and a post. They are available at any hardware store. After cleaning thoroughly, reconnect the clamps to the terminals of battery. Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to provide some protection. Use a voltmeter to check the connection.

Distilled water is another important factor. The cells and plates inside the battery should always be immersed in water. If they run out of water, then it will cause fire. Always make sure to check the water level and fill if necessary.

At last charge the battery either by plugging to electrical source or by solar power, according to your convenience.
