A simple process comes with examinations for hearing and these tests are things we should consider when we reach the age when our sense of hearing is not as good as it used to be. Similar to the Weber test, the Rinne test also makes use of a vibrating tuning fork where the sound created is of a higher frequency. What happens here is that the tuning fork is placed on the mastoid process until the sound disappears. Expect to have the tuning fork placed outside the ear by the examiner afterwards.

If the person has no hearing problem, he or she will still be able to hear some form of sound at this point. A hearing problem will usually mean having nothing to hear. This is how the Rinne test detects problems with people's hearing.

Usually, a hearing exam is paired up with a speech evaluation. In different frequencies, a sound test will be conducted by the audiologist and the person being evaluated will be asked to repeat the sounds being played. A good sense of hearing is usually associated with being able to distinguish words.
