Cheetah Safari: Trip To The Best Nature Reserves Of Kenya

Following the trails of the cheetah, one of the most elusive animals of Africa

, the Cheetah Safari takes safari goers to some of the finest wildlife reserves of Kenya. The safari tour covers Aberdare, Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and the world famous Maasai Mara. Cheetah safari itinerary

Aberdare

After overnight stay in Nairobi, the first destination in the safari itinerary is the fascinating wilderness of the forested slopes of the Aberdare Mountains. About 100 km to the north of the capital city of Kenya, Aberdare nature reserve comprises of moorlands, rainforests and bamboo forests interspersed by rivers and streams. The unique ecosystem teeming with wildlife is home to numerous animals and birds, including a number of endangered species.


Samburu

The homeland of the Samburu people is the next destination in the safari tour. The wildlife inhabiting the park is supported by the waters of the Ewaso Ngiro River flowing through the middle of the park. The dense riverine forests and the palm groves on the riverbanks are home to the big five animals of Africa and numerous ungulates and other animal species. The park is also a great venue for bird watching.

Lake Nakuru

En route to Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru is a popular natural attraction of Kenya. About two hours drive from Nairobi, the iconic lake with its large pink flamingo population is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The typical dry Savannah vegetation comprising of open bushes and dry woodlands surrounding the lake is home to large number of animal species. The reserve is admired for its large avian population that has colonized the nutrient rich lake.

Lake Naivasha

Located at an altitude of 1884 metres above sea level, Lake Naivasha is a popular freshwater lake in Kenya. With more than 400 avian species inhabiting the lake and its surrounding, Naivasha is a popular destination for bird watching in the Kenyan Rift Valley.

Maasai Mara

The safari terminates in Maasai Mara, arguably the best safari destination in Kenya. The open grassland dotted with shrubs and thorn trees is ideal for game viewing. The morning and afternoon game drives take safari goers close to the animals of the plain including the famous big five animals of Africa and numerous endangered mammal species. The early morning hot-air balloon rides are a popular mode of observing the activities occurring on the ground.
