In 2008, Master Minded came home 10 lengths clear of his nearest pursuer and Twist Magic scooted a full 15 lengths ahead of his nearest rival 12 months ago.

Perhaps the most fascinating race of the day for spread punters will be the International Hurdle, featuring last year's Supreme Novices' hero Menorah, the unbeaten Silviniaco Conti and the hugely exciting and also unbeaten novice Cue Card. His followers will also be pleased that Richard Johnson the most successful jockey in this race with four wins will be in the saddle.

In recent years SP spread sellers have dominated this contest with six of the last nine favourites obliging. However, 12 months ago Khyber Kim caused a major shock when winning at 12/1 and beating 4/7 favourite Celestial Halo. Spread buyers will hope for a repeat of Rigmarole's win in 2003, though, when he finished a length in front of Davenport Milenium at 25/1.
