Cherishing The Joys Of Decorative Dolls
A large part of the joy of celebrating the seasons is decorating
, and some of the most versatile and adorable seasonal decorations are dolls. An array of cute characters can be dressed to fit any holiday, mood or occasion. What would Christmas be without a crew of merry Christmas elves to lend a little bit of holiday cheer to the home? How precious is it to see a host of adorable baby angels dressed in white, set out on a cloud of fluffy, white cotton? And although Christmastime is nearly synonymous with rosy-cheeked little cherubs, it is by far not the only time of year to say "Hello Dolly."
With an ever-changing group of decorative props, even a small grouping can be festive for the season. In October, perhaps one could create a trick-or-treat or fall-themed gathering. And speaking of gatherings, other costumed decorative dolls for Thanksgiving might be dressing as pilgrims and Indians. The ideas are nearly endless: spring-themed displays, summer-fun fashion dolls all grouped around a little plastic pool, Fourth of July, Easter tableaux with baby dolls all dressed in their Sunday best. And don't forget the Christmas elves. Looking at them is almost as much fun as changing the display to keep it always fresh and new. It is also an opportunity to be creative.
There are almost as many ways to showcase dolls and figurines as they are figurines and dolls themselves. Some people like to have themes, such as displaying one from each country, perhaps with a map of the world hanging behind them. There are also many ideas to be garnered from different movies and sets of characters from literature. Another favorite scheme is to represent different regions around the country, each with their own indigenous wardrobes. Little toy animals dressed up can add a festive atmosphere. They become a bit more real with furniture, backgrounds, buildings and almost anything else imaginable to showcase these whimsical characters that are unique.
There is something about seeing a doll that brings back warm memories. It is a way of keeping some of the joy of childhood alive and to share that joy with others. It is the same way that the magic of holidays allows people to keep that child inside of them alive. When one combines the two, what you have is pure magic. That is something to cherish and something to pass on so that that magic continues for generations to come.
