Chevrolet Spark Facelift: Gm Hopes To Bring Back Sparks Lost Glory

. Shutterbugs have been glued on to the ARAI centre located in Pune to catch a glimpse of the 2012 Chevrolet Spark hatchback. The upgraded Spark model is due for launch at the end of the year 2012. Breaking covers during the season of lights, Dusshera-Diwali, the hatchback eyes to make full advantage of the over enthusiast customers who tend to buy new cars during this time. 2012 Chevrolet Spark facelift will take design cues from the Chevrolet Spark Electric concept. Chevrolet Spark Electric was showcased at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo. The concept could not be materialized due to Reva being acquired by Mahindra. Spark Electric could not turn to reality, but this has led to the Spark facelift.

The front fascia will get a new grille that could become a trend setter in the upcoming Chevrolet cars. Such type of grille was first seen in India in cars like Chevrolet Cruze saloon and Chevrolet Beat hatchback. After being endowed with this type of grille, the suave looking hatchback will join the bandwagon of aggressive looking cars. Apart from this, the headlights of the Spark hatchback will also be reworked with the front end indicators to give a much polished look to the hatchback. Bumpers too will get re-designed; the rear of the hatchback will also go under the knife with new tail lights and a restyled hatch door.

This sum up the prominent changes in the hatchback, apart from this, the rest is expected to remain same. On the interior front, the car could get a touch up with the dual cockpit theme. However this is still a speculation and nothing has been materialized as of yet. The 1 litre four cylinder engine pumping out 63 Bhp of high power will continue to do its duty in the hatchback. Despite high demand for the diesel motor, the company is not thinking about the diesel version yet.

What is sure to happen is the launch of petrol version only, killing the possibility of a diesel avatar of the hatchback. Spark petrol has been spotted many times undergoing test runs. Chevrolet Spark is not as frugal as its arch rivals Maruti Alto hatchback and Hyundai Eon hatchback, therefore we expect that the new Spark will be able to give a tough fight to its strong competitors in this field too. However, the hatchback scores well in ride and handling department. The facelift version of the hatchback is being developed in wake of giving a push to the sales of the hatchback. Chevrolet is the entry level hatchback from the clan of Chevrolet in India, it has helped GM India clock good sales every month but ever since the demand for diesel powered cars in India rose, Spark came under the shadow of gloom and its monthly sales dropped drastically.

Launch of this facelift version is an effort to bring back the lost glory of the star hatchback of GM India. Other than this, the company has also planned a couple of new car launches in India in the year 2012. GM India has lined up launch of Sail twins, which will be replacing the outdated and dud seller Aveo sedan and Aveo U-VA hatchback. Chevrolet Sail hatchback will mark its entry into the Indian car market by the month of July that is this month only. On the other hand the Chevrolet Sail sedan could be launched in India during the festive season near September. Also Chevrolet Enjoy MPV could hit the Indian shores by the end of this year around November or December 2012.
