Chicago Nissan dealers could feature Mercedes components soon

Nissan and Mercedes - who would have thought? Well

, like several other auto makers, these two have decided to join forces and build a better mousetrap, er, engine. Chicago Nissan dealers are excited at the prospect of what could come from this partnership.

A while back Nissan/Renault and Daimler-Benz announced that they would work together on some projects. There were no specifics given at the time, but now Nissan and Mercedes-Benz have said they will work closely to develop engine technology and their vehicles will share some engines and platforms.

Of course, this has the entire auto industry speculating about what model might be tricked out with an engine from the other maker. Very little is being said in that realm right now, but customers of used cars in Libertyville can be sure that whatever product comes from this combined effort will be top quality.

So far it's being reported that the new Infiniti G sedan and coupes and possibly M sedans in the future will be put on the platform of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. That sounds like something that would make Chicago Nissan dealers take notice.

But even more exciting, the 370Z is rumored to be getting the Benz treatment under the hood. Rather than the current VQ 3.70liter V6, the 370Z could get any of the following Mercedes engines: V6 diesel from the E-Class, a V6 hybrid or a V8.

Now let's imagine we're going diesel. (The fun just never ends when you start piecing together the ultimate dream machine!) If the 370Z does get a diesel engine is will probably be the 3-liter from the E350 BlueTEC. Although less powerful than the current gas engine, it has plenty of torque.

If you are just shopping used cars, you may not be concerned about the engines in new Nissan or Mercedes models. Then again, you might want to consider a Z hybrid, which would likely get the 3.5-liter coupled with an electric.

What auto enthusiasts really like to think about (hey, it's what we do), is the possibility of something like the AMG 500 engine showing up in something like the 370Z and creating a monster that might even blow away the Chevy Corvette. Hey, a guy can dream can't he?

But this partnership is a reality, not a fantasy and the combinations created by Nissan and Mercedes-Benz will surely turn heads even if they aren't quite the combination we dream of. With the solid reputations of both companies and their history of powerful luxury products, we can expect nothing less than to be pleasantly surprised.

Perhaps they would be willing to take our suggestions of the ultimate machine and then let us test drive it. If only . . .
