* A really great, all-round choice could be barred Plymouth Rocks. Over the summer months they lay just about every day. They are well mannere , vigorous chickens of a good size and weight. As a bonus, these hens are amazingly pretty.

Whichever breed you choose, take a little time beforehand to research them thoroughly. That way you won't have any nasty surprises.
