The church of Girolamini (or Gerolomini) is a basilica church in Naples.It is among the largest religious buildings Neapolitan (its dimensions are comparable to those of the Cathedral) and furthermore, its interior has a high concentration of works of art, sculpture and architecture since worked on several occasions, various artists extraction Tuscan Emilia and Rome. The church was built in the nineties of the sixteenth century, designed by Giovanni Antonio Dosio in classical forms of Tuscany, after his death was continued by Dionisio Nencioni Bartholomew to the last in 1639. The dome was built in the mid-seventeenth century by Dionisio Lazzari, he also designed the facade, but was rebuilt in 1780 to designs by Ferdinando Fuga. It comes in white marble and bardiglio. On either side is flanked by two bell towers with clocks, while the statement itself is typeset on two sets defined by an entablature: in the lower register, divided by fluted pilasters, there are three portals, the central one is the more, the sculptural group above the central portal reproduces the tables of the commandments in the Hebrew text. The upper part of facade is relieved by a rectangular window surmounted by a triangular pediment, over which stands a crown consisting of a broken arched pediment, the center of which stands a septum decorated with the image of motherhood, surmounted by a further arched pediment. In the niches of the prospectus of the statues are placed by Cosimo Fanzago started and completed by Giuseppe Sammartino; other statues, by the same sculptor, are placed on the portal.
