Childhood Injury

Children often times get bumps and bruises from falling down or playing sports

. Most injuries are not serious, but many times they are. Injuries are a primary reason why children are admitted to an emergency room and hospital. Our child injury lawyers have gathered the following statistics from the National Safety Council, the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, and other sources to provide you with important information regarding childhood injuries.

Fatal Injuries

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were about 2,800 children, ages 1-14, which died from an unintentional injury. Injuries are the leading cause of death among children and young adults. Airway obstruction injury is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for infants under the age of one.

In addition, approximately 45% of unintentional injury deaths occurred in and around the home. Some of the most common reasons of these kinds of deaths include:

Fire and burns

Suffocation

Drowning

Firearms

Falls

Choking

Poisoning

The number two cause of unintentional injury-related deaths for children (ages 1-14) is drowning. Most drownings or near-drownings occur in residential swimming pools and in open water park sites. However, as little as one inch of water is enough for a child to drown in.

Unintentional Injuries

The number one cause of unintentional injuries for children is due to falls. Children ages 14 and under make up one third of all fall-related hospital emergency room visits. Also, in 2003 about 285,600 children were treated in the United States for bike injuries. Almost half (47%) of those children hospitalized for these bicycle injuries were diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Child Injury Lawyer Book

"Little Kids, BIG ACCIDENTS" explains the laws for child injury and accident cases. It also discusses the most common child injury accidents, the legal basis for filing child injury cases, why every child injury settlement must be approved by a judge, what is a fair settlement amount and how is it calculated, and what happens with the settlement money. Additionally the book informs a parent on the strategies that insurance companies will use to avoid paying you a fair settlement and why you need to find the best child injury lawyer for you case.

There are strict limitations for filing a child injury accident lawsuit so you should act quickly so that your case is not destroyed due to a delay in taking action.
