In case there are no black notes in between the white notes, the way it is in between note E-F and note B-C, one takes a whole step only if one progresses from note E to F#/Gb, whereas a step from note E to note F will be called half a step. A triad is formed with three or more notes or tones. A major triad in C major is formed with 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes. Which is to say root, major third and perfect 5th respectively. To form these notes, take your 1st [Thumb], 3rd [Middle finger] and 5th [pinky] of your hand, right one and reverse the order for you left hand which is going to be 1st [Pinky], 3rd [Middle finger] and 5th [Thumb].

A minor triad will be formed in a similar way only that the major 3rd will be flattened and the notes will be 1st [root], 3rd [minor third-b3rd] and 5th [perfect 5th].
