Chiropractor Advice For A Healthy Classroom

Back to school means back to long hours in the classroom for teachers and students

. Teachers can help create a healthy classroom environment for their students and themselves by following the following chiropractor advice.

Practice fluid teaching

Fluid teaching is not intended to reflect your teaching style. You are the expert educator and well leave that expertise to you. However, from a chiropractors point of view, we want to help you feel better and more energized while teaching. Fluid teaching simple means that you continue to move while teaching instead of sitting at your desk or standing in place to lecture for an entire class period. Try to break you classroom time into chunks of time. Perhaps you lecture for 15 minutes, walk around the room to help students for another period of time, and consult with students at your desk or allow private work time where you can take the weight off of your feet for a portion of the class. If your classroom teaching style does not allow for fluid teaching, try to at least take a few minutes between every class period to walk, stretch, and sit. Your back and leg muscles will thank you at the end of the day.

Allow students a break to stand and stretch

With the face paced lifestyles that technology has created, its no surprise that students attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. This means its harder for students to sit still for long periods of time. Help your students energize and stimulate their minds by allowing them a few minutes of break time each class period to stand and stretch at their desks. This will help them keep their muscles and minds agile.

Teach students proper posture

Whether you teach grade school, junior high English, or senior Calculus, teach your students healthy habits they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Teach them good postural habits. Most students have poor posture while sitting. They slouch forward with hunched shoulders or either lean back out of alignment. Proper sitting posture is feet flat on the floor with the back naturally against the chair and shoulders back and down. Teach students early to be good to their body and it just may stick with them for the rest of their life. If you want help from an expert, consider inviting a local chiropractor to come speak to your students about healthy habits. A healthy body is a happy body is a learning body!
