Chiropractor Paducah Ky | Neck Pain And Stiffness Is Tricky
There are several really unpleasant things about neck pain and stiffness
. The first two, of course, are the pain and stiffness, which are actually what make all the other things so unpleasant as well. The good news is that there are also things that can be done to make them go away.
Pain Shouldn't Be Sneaky -
There is something about neck pain and stiffness that makes it seem almost alive and deliberate in the way it impacts your life. This is because, unlike most other types of pain, neck pain ambushes you. For example, if you break your leg, wrench your back or sprain your wrist, there's always at least a low level ache there to remind you never to help your friends move again. With luck, after the first little while, you aren't in constant agony, but you are aware that something bad happened. This is what pain is for, to let you know not to do that again.
Neck pain isn't like that. It sits quietly and waits until you have completely forgotten about it and you foolishly try to turn your head beyond a certain point, as in, looking around like you do every other day, and then it strikes. Trying to drive or even walk when you feel like there's a knife being jabbed into the base of your skull is not the easiest or safest task.
If you do remember that you hurt, that's almost worse, as you spend a day or several trying not to hit that magic point of pain, which ultimately leads to greater stiffness and can find you waking up the next morning in worse shape than you were in when you went to bed. This can turn into a vicious cycle that will go on until you have become so accustomed to turning your entire body to look to one side or the other that you reflexively scream when you move too far - only to discover that, having won, the neck pain and stiffness have gone off to attack someone else.
Pre-Emptive (And Post-Emptive) Strikes -
You do not have to be at the mercy of your pain. The first time it happens, you are stuck with it for a while, but if it continues to come back, this is because it has found a weakness in your defenses and you need to find someone to help you shore them up. Your friendly chiropractor is just the person to help rebuild your fortifications.
Anyone can suffer from neck pain and stiffness now and again, but if yours is either chronic, or long lasting, it probably signifies a deeper problem. Furthermore, in this kind of situation, if you could fix the problem yourself, you probably would have been able to do so by now, so it's time to call in a professional.
A chiropractor can do the obvious and perform an adjustment on your spine and neck muscles to relieve the immediate cause of the pain, but they can also help to determine why it keeps happening. It may be as simple as needing a new pillow, or there may be stretching exercises you can do at your desk or construction site to keep the kinks from returning. It may be something else entirely, but the sooner you find out, the sooner you can beat back the pain.
