Chitravina N. Ravikiran, a very prominent and famous Chitravina player has many feathers to his cap. Apart from his mastery over Chitravina, he is also an accomplished vocalist, author and an exceptional composer. He displayed his deep grasp of ragas and talas and fascinated the music community with his profound knowledge in Carnatic Music at an early age of two, thus becoming the worlds youngest performer. He performed in a lot of concerts as a vocalist until the age of ten, when he directed his attentions to the 21-stringed instrument, the Chitravina. He is famous for his invention of Navachitravina which is smaller than Chitravina but has a clearer tone in the higher frequencies. He has contributed a lot to music through his multifaceted roles as a Chitravina player,a composer, author and a vocalist. His concept of Melharmony, harmony that stays within the melodic rules of an Indian raga has won him a lot of praises. N.Ravikiran has also bagged the titles of the Indian Mozart and the greatest slide instrumentalist in the world He has authored many books such as Appreciating Carnatic MusicandPerfecting Carnatic Music Level I and II that have received a lot of appreciations from its readers.
