Choose Accessories That Are Made To Last

Over the years, I've spent an incredible amount of money on fashion accessories. I've always thought of these as being something of a guilty pleasure. At the back of my mind, I've always realised that I was spending too much money. But it was too much fun, so I couldn't stop!

Some people would also say that I wasted a lot of money. Sure, these accessories helped me to look good at the time. But what am I left with now? What have I got to show for all that spending? This is a perfectly reasonable line of enquiry and it certainly does feel as though some of the money was wasted.

There are plenty of items that I ended up throwing away, or giving away in some cases. Although other people may be happy wearing an old belt or watch, it's clear that I got bored with some of them. In many cases, I found that my sense of style was changing with age. I simply didn't own clothes that worked well with some of the accessories that I still had.

But let's not get too carried away! I certainly didn't waste every penny that I spent on these items. I still have plenty of them and wear them regularly. In many cases, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that I got value for money. It's strange to think that it's not necessarily the most expensive pieces that have lasted.

Indeed, some of the more expensive items have long since broken or fallen apart. It is, however, fair to say that you do often get what you pay for. In my view, it's clear that more expensive items are often manufactured to a higher standard. As a result, they tend to last for longer.

When you're choosing a new watch, belt, tie or pair of shoes, it's not simply about selecting something that's the right price. This is something that I've come to realise over the years. I still own some accessories that were made many years ago, but I rarely choose to wear them. That's simply because they no longer look fashionable.

This is a problem that is familiar to anyone who buys a lot of clothes and accessories. You end up with items that looked great, but you wouldn't wear now. That's why choosing accessories should also be about selecting pieces that will age well. This is easier said than done!

If something looks like it's at the cutting edge of fashion and design, then there's a good chance that it won't look great in another 10 years. Stick to classic designs and you won't go far wrong.
