Choose Brittany Property For That Get Away From Home
France's region of Brittany is a favourite destination for UK tourists and retirees
. It's rather easy to get to after all, being just a short ferry ride across the sea and it's a great place to buy property, so investors often choose this location for their second home so that they are easily able to get away from the sometimes difficult British life.
Brittany is well known for its cuisine, its cider making, its rugged territory and beautiful scenery. It seems to be a far cry from the British way of life and no wonder that its popularity is growing. Brittany property comes in all shapes and sizes and is spread across the entire region. You may choose to buy property in Brittany for renovation purposes, for investment or indeed to relocate permanently. Since the advent of the European Union, we are all now "European" essentially and have the luxury of being able to live within any other country within the Union, should we wish to.
When you enter into a buying process you should note there are some definite requirements to bear in mind. After completing a preliminary contract you will be able to enjoy a mandatory cooling off period of seven days before you have to transfer a deposit equal to 10% from your bank. Expect to wait for quite a lengthy time while the necessary behind the scenes investigations take place enabling transfer of ownership. Once all this is completed you can expect to take delivery of the property in about three months time.
By all means visit the region first to see what you think and get used to all its intricacies and differences. You have to be sure that you would be happy living there or being in charge of a property and should plan a trip at your leisure to find out. Always avoid the month of August though, as the French often take their holidays in droves at this time and there may be nobody around.
Take your time when you start to look for property for sale in Brittany. There always seems to be quite a selection, so it stands to reason that you should never be too keen to make a snap judgment. Of course, as we all know it's possible to fall in love with a specific property, and this is why it's always a good idea to have that seven day "cooling off" period as well!
When it's time for you to consider leaving the rat race, why not consider escaping to the beautiful countryside of Brittany? While it's certainly true to say that there are many cultural differences between the British and the French, it really doesn't take that much effort to get used to the way of life there. As Brittany is so close, in geographical terms, to the UK, you can always pop aboard the ferry or jump on the Eurostar and be back in England in no time, to catch up with those relatives and "long-lost" friends!
