Choose The Ideal Face Lift Surgery For You

If you have decided that you want to go for a face lift surgery you will now need to consider the different procedures that are available

. When you have your first consultation with your surgeon they will be able to tell you the best one for you, but if you would like to know more about them beforehand here is an easy-to-understand guide:

Traditional face lift

The traditional face lift is probably the one that you are most familiar with, as it is one of the most performed cosmetic surgeries in the UK. It is also the one that takes the longest to heal though, as more incisions are required, but if you require an extensive face lift surgery it will likely be the one suggested to you by your surgeon.

During the surgery an incision will be made along your hairline, past the front of your ears and back into the hairline behind them. This will result in minimal scarring as it will all be hidden in your hairline. The skin will be very carefully separated from the tissue and will then proceed to tighten the muscles and remove fat pockets as necessary. The skin will then be stitched back into place.

Upon awakening, your face will be bandaged to assist in the healing process and to safeguard against infection. You will also have drains in place behind your ears to remove any excess fluid. The bandages and drains will usually be removed before you return home, although this differs between individual cases.

Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS)

During a MACS procedure the muscles of your face can still be tightened and any excess fat removed, with the only difference being that smaller incisions are used. All work is done through these incisions, meaning that your healing process will ultimately take less time.

Keyhole surgery

Keyhole surgery is often only used for smaller facial surgeries such as an upper face lift or a brow lift, rather than a full face lift. It is an incredibly popular procedure though, as the incisions used are even smaller than in MACS surgery. If it is appropriate for you, your surgeon will insert an endoscope (telescopic camera) beneath the skin and a live image will be shown on a monitor. They will use this to see exactly which muscles need to be tightened and if there is any fat that can be removed.
