Choose The Right Camera Settings For Your Photos
If you are a beginner of photography, you may frustrate about how to set you camera in the right way: the focus, the exposure, and so on
. Different conditions need different settings, below are the experiences of mine.
Choose the best focus mode
Now the cameras auto focus mode is strong enough for most of the time. But you need to choose the right mode for your condition.
Single AF: It is suitable for stationary theme.
Continuous AF: It is suitable for the subject that always changing its position.
In general, the basis of photography is the accurate focus. While shooting the static landscape like mountains or lakes, you can use the Single AF; shooting free cars or sports, it is recommended to use continuous autofocus.
But in the situation as below, you may need to switch it to manual focus:
Low contrast subjects: blue sky, the same color walls.
The subject under low light: night scene, star
Strong backlit or reflective subjects: reflective car
Repeat pattern: latticed windows, computer keyboards
Focus position and the image. Different focus position will change the photos, even the same scene. Focus on close position, the background will be very fuzzy; focus on distance, the f background will be blurred. So if you want to shoot a clear background, the distance between the background and subject should be short. In additional, the vague prospects can express the distance sense of the subject. Use the right one to express the thing you want to.
The exposure mode
While shooting the moving scene, you can select the Shutter Priority mode, the shutter speed to capture the action; while shooting static subjects, the aperture priority mode is more suitable.
Select the exposure mode depending on the shooting theme
The camera now can directly change the sensitivity to get different degrees of exposure. Some high-end cameras even automatically improve the sensitivity of the photosensitive element under insufficient light scene, known as Auto ISO.
Exposure compensation
According to the intent of performance, we may increase or decrease in the amount of exposure. Of course it is not the error of the camera's metering system, but because it dont know your idea. At this time, decrease the exposure amount (minus eV or negative compensation), the image will darken while increase the amount of exposure (plus eV or positive compensation) will become brighter and increase the creation of the work. If you are not sure the optimal exposure value, you can use the bracketing mode and then select the best imaging.
The dark are accounted for more than half of the screen,-1.67eV. The white bright part accounted for more than half of the screen, +1.67 eV.
Determine the exposure compensation value according to your intent. To express the atmosphere of the evening, the final decision is darken the image (-1eV). In order to emphasize the pictures in the snow, try to add the exposure compensation. (+1 EV).
