So which one is right for you as you take your journey through college? Which company makes the best college laptops?

HP offers the most user friendly machines, but there are numerous HP units to choose from. The most obvious choice is a HP netbook. It's small and lightweight and still has a decent picture. If you prefer a Mac, you still have the same dilemma, which one is right for you?

The next obvious choice would be a Macbook. In college, you tend to be assigned writing projects or group presentations. That means you can really take your pick of machines because all will give you those basic capabilities. But students do so much more with their laptops now. The most important feature is hard drive space. Another major concern is which drives come with it. For example, a small netbook only comes equipped with USB ports. There's no CD/DVD capability at all. Is that a deal breaker for you movie watchers? Dell, making the list at number three, makes a very good machine and has its own customer support network. The trade off is that the smaller machines are slower and may not perform as well for games and videos. Smaller machines have smaller buttons, but they also have a much smaller price. An Acer would offer you the lowest price machine, but still comes in fourth place. These are the type of style, price, and use questions you must ask yourself before choosing the laptop that is right for you.

Don't hesitate to ask the sales associate a ton of questions about what each machine offers and lacks. You will be dependent on your laptop to stay in touch with family, meet new friends, manage your finances, and of course do school work. Take the time to make a good choice. And remember that laptops are not expected to last forever, so don't stress too much. A used laptop, making the list at number five, can serve its purpose and save you money too.
