Don't count contemporary furniture out on this account, however. Many good contemporary furniture pieces can last just as long, using a combination of natural and artificial materials. In this case, buying contemporary furniture will require much more attention to the materials used in construction as they have the chance of being flimsy and breaking easily. A good eye will go a long way in finding furniture pieces that will become antiques in their own right in the future.

Variety

Due to the restraints of construction methods and materials, furniture antiques will not have the same range of colours and styles as contemporary furniture. That is not to say furniture antiques are not without options. There are a variety of different styles from unique time periods and locations. Supply of these styles can be an issue, however, as these pieces of furniture are not being manufactured and may require a hunt to find the perfect couch or table.

Contemporary furniture comes in any shape, colour or size you may need. There are many texture options as well, making a huge selection even larger. Contemporary furniture is also much easier to find and purchase. When they run out, they make more, just like they used to do with the antique furniture. If an interior designer is looking for a ready supply of unique furniture, Contemporary furniture is a solid choice.

Price

Furniture antiques can be quite pricey, especially if they are well maintained. The limited supply means that any designer would most likely pay more for furniture antiques in general. There are exceptions to this, and some bargain hunters have found spectacular deals in dark antique store basements. It will be more difficult to save money with antique furniture, but not impossible.

Contemporary furniture has much more pricing options. There are also some very expensive pieces, but cheaper versions are usually available. Contemporary furniture once again benefits from its larger selection.
