Choosing Between Ebel And Movado Watch Brands
Watches are inarguably the most difficult pieces of jewelry to purchase because there
are just so many different types, styles, materials, and other variations to consider. Which brand is best? Which country is best? Should I choose a Movado watch, or browse the selection of Baume & Mercier watches?
Knowing how to buy a watch is very important, but don't worry, today we'll discuss some techniques to help you find the perfect wrist watch.
- When thinking about the type of watch you'd like to buy, it's important to think about how you will use your future timepiece. Maybe you're a businessman and you need a durable, yet stylish watch for every day use. If so, look into titanium watches. Or maybe you need a watch that can be exposed to water, in which case diver watches would be your best bet. Perhaps you're an athlete and need a sports watch. Knowing what type of watch you want to buy can help you make the right purchase and narrow down the list of options you have.
- Know the five most important watch vocabulary terms: complication, movement, quartz, self-winding and water-resistant. Knowing these terms and what they mean will allow you to ask the dealer questions and get a better sense of what you're purchasing. Buying a watch based solely on its physical appearance should not be your first priority.
1) Movement-- The mechanism that measures the passage of time and displays the current time (this might include date, month, and day depending on the watch).
2) Complication-- Refers to the different functions a watch has. Stopwatch capabilities, also known as the chronograph complication, are one example. Another example of a complication is the moonphase complication, which is a display of the lunar phrase.
3) Quartz-- Modest quartz watches use an electronic oscillator that is regulated by a quartz crystal to keep time. This technique creates a signal with very accurate frequency.
4) Self-winding-- Also known as an automatic mechanism, the self-winding feature automatically rewinds the mainspring of a mechanical movement by the natural motions of the wearer's body.
5) Water-resistant-- Watches that are water-resistant will not be damaged by water up to the depth indicated on the technical specifications.
- Speak to an actual dealer first. Seeing a watch that you like or a watch similar to it will allow you to find the right watch online, often with lower prices and a larger selection, as opposed to a retail seller. Physically seeing a watch before you purchase it is typically a good idea, but buying online after you see it will most likely save you money and time.
- If you're getting a fantastic deal that seems too good to be true--it probably is. If someone is selling a Longines mens watch for $100, it's probably fake. Don't get fooled by amazing deals. You'll probably have to spend at least $100 to find a real good watch. Browse slowly and make sure you find the right watch for you, whether it's an Ebel watch or a Movado watch.
