Choosing Between Skin Needling Rollers

As skin needling increases in popularity, the types of micro needling devices that are available has reached a confusingly difficult level

. There are several brands and dozens of variations of what could and should be very simple devices.

To many, it is difficult to work out what the differences between all these brands are; especially as many online resources claim theirs to be the "best" and only alternative. The key to choosing between all of these is to understand the pros and cons of different systems so that you are able to make your own mind up based on simple rules which are universal between all brands of skin roller.

It is worth saying from the outset, that all skin needling devices will to the greater extent, produce exactly the same results. At the very simplest level, all skin needling involves is running a series of micro needles over the skins surface, penetrating the very outer layers of the skin. It stands to reason that, based on the fact that all rollers basically follow the same general design, that there is going to be very little difference in the outcome of rolling one set of needles compared to another.

The main difference between dermaroller brands therefore, lies in the quality of the needles which affects both the strength and longevity of each device as well as the comfort levels of using one roller over another.

Some skin needling brands are designed to last much longer than others. This is achieved by changing the mix of the materials which make up the needles construction. Whilst most skin needling devices are manufactured with a medical grade stainless steel, others may include specialist materials such as a Titanium which add strength and rigity to needles. This in turn mean that the needles themselves should last much longer than on other brands.

Other models may focus on reducing the needle widths so that they are as narrow as possible. Because the skin is pierced by these devices, narrower needles create a much lower resistance and therefore reduce the chances significantly of there being any discomfort.

Bare in mind the balance of these two factors when choosing one brand over another. Finally, taking into account the price of the roller too (more expensive rollers will have stronger narrower needles) and you will have all the three major considerations.

The best way to choose between rollers therefore, is to consider where on your body it is you wish to roll. For sensitive areas (such as the face) it is sensible to consider narrower, more expensive needles. The amount of surface you will be rolling in these instances is very small and the strength and longevity of the needles is a less important factor. For less sensitive areas, (the thighs, stomach etc) strength of needles is more important as you will need to roll a much larger area.

There are a few other minor considerations to be aware of too which include less important factors such as build quality, needle arrangement and handle design. Finding a source which can provide options on all of these factors is most useful, especially as this is also accompanied with unbiased advice which is not directed at encouraging you to choose one specific brand.
