Choosing Contemporary Or Traditional Table Lamps

When a friend enters your living room, the use of lighting can be one of the factors

that can decide if they are impressed or not! Changing a mediocre space into something that suggests comfort and welcome is what any home decorator aims to do. When you decorate a room, you should consider the colours, furniture, floor and window coverings and the lighting. With the vast array of table lamps now available, it is very easy to coordinate and bring everything together.

If one decides to mix different types of lighting it is important that you put complimentary places as well as blend with the decorating theme of the room. With traditional decor, for example, one might choose an older looking table lamp. With contemporary decoration, one has a large number of choices available! Whatever you choose, you should place and blend all the lights to give a comforting glow to the room.

When shopping for a lamp, it is sometimes difficult to make decision. There are many beautiful lamps in all types of shapes, designs and colours, which would make an excellent complement to the overall feel of a room. You should select a lamp to carry out the plan and, if one has gone for a natural theme for example, there are lamps made of suitable materials that would work out very well.

You should consider the purpose of the lamp. If you need to place a light in an area where you do a lot of reading then the size of the lamp and the type of bulb are important. If the lamps are simply to provide an inviting atmosphere then you should continue this feeling throughout your room.

The size of the room does of course influence the type of lamp or other lighting that is used. Some people have artwork hung on their walls and like to highlight it with a small light. A well-designed table lamp that fits in with the rest of the room can compliment this type of focussed lighting.

If you use some area of a room as a temporary work area, you should select a lamp at this spot to give off ample light. At the same time, when you remove the work, it should blend in with the rest of the surroundings. Many of the lamps currently available will fit this requirement.

The number and type of table lamp or lamps chosen will depend on the size of the room. Other factors include the decor you wish to emphasise. You should also consider whether you need extra lighting for special reading or sitting areas. Depending on the illusion one wishes to present, a choice might be of a lamp made of natural products or a Tiffany lamp. There is such a wide range of choices that it is easy to find the exact table lamps that will fit in perfectly with the theme one you wish to portray.
