A big congratulations to you - your daughter is getting married! Although she'll be your little girl forever, she has now entered a new phase in her life as an adult. With the big day set in a few months time, it's time you start looking for a dress to celebrate the occasion.

Choosing a mother of the bride dress can be difficult, especially when there are so many choices out there. You may also be concerned about finding a dress that fits you well. Here are 5 tips to help you out with this task:

1. Find out what your daughter will be wearing first. Her dress, along with her plans of the actual wedding service and reception, will give you an idea of what style to choose. If she and the groom are planning a formal black tie event, then you'll have to find something that is suitable.

2. What's your color? By now, you should know which colors look good on you and which don't. Choose something that's flattering. However, experts do recommend that you don't wear white or any variation of the color since it can conflict with the bride's dress. You are free to choose any other color, though.

3. Talk to the bride to find out what she would like you to wear. After all, it is her day!

4. After you've chosen your dress, you should let the other mother in the wedding party know: the groom's mother.Traditionally, you get first dibs on the dress but as an act of courtesy, you should inform the groom's mother of what you'll be wearing so she can then find a dress for herself (that will, of course, be different but share the same features, such as length and neckline).

5. Finally, start shopping as soon as your daughter has found her wedding dress. Ordering your dress months ahead allows ample breathing room to accommodate fitting, alterations, and any last-minute changes that arise due to mistakes or things that have been overlooked.
