There is so much choice and so many things to consider when investing in promotional products for your company that it can be overwhelming

. However, of the millions of different promotional products available, the simple fact is that only a few of them will be right for your company, your services or your product. The key, then, is quickly figuring out which products are most suitable for you and which are a waste of your time.

The first and most important thing to consider is what you want to use your promotional product for. More likely than not, the use you will have in mind will be advertising your services or products to potential clients and customers. To this extent, is it most wise to keep these people in mind throughout the entire process of choosing a product; its not you it has to appeal to its them. So from the very outset you should be aware that the best products for you will be the ones that do two things very well: appeal to potential clients and successfully advertise your company or services.

Of these two qualities, the latter is probably the most important. It doesnt matter how much potential clients love or use your product if they have no idea who or what it is advertising. When it comes to choosing a product, therefore, make sure you look for one that allows as good an advertising opportunity as possible, within reason. Stress balls, for example, are fairly popular products with large blank spaces where company names and logos can be printed. However, do bear in mind that stress balls that are actually used will likely suffer a degree of wear and tear, meaning the printed name or logo can easily be worn away. Hence, if you are considering stress balls as your promotional product, do make sure you invest in some decent printing.

Only marginally less important than the advertising potential of a product is the appeal it holds for potential customers. Granted a person doesnt have to use a use a mug every day to notice the company it is advertising, but the more a person s exposed to an advert, the more of an impact it will have on them. For this reason, it is best to seek a promotional product that a potential customer will actually use, perhaps even on a daily basis! The kind of product that you customer base is likely to use will, however, be dictated in part by the kind of people they are. A pencil case is a smart promotional product if you are appealing to school children for example, but not such a great idea if your target audience is the residents of nursing homes. However, even with this in mind, its important to be realistic about how popular your product is going to be with people, even if they are the kind of person most likely to use it. These days, for example, most people work on computers and take them wherever they go; giving promotional calculators to businessmen, therefore, may seem like a clever idea, but in reality its probably not all that well thought out.

The most important things to consider when choosing a promotional product are finding something that will be of genuine use to your target audience, whilst also having the potential to successful advertise yourself. Look for something of use with a large blank surface for a name and contact information; pens, stress balls and mouse mats are some ideas, but theres so much choice that you really should consider trying something different!
