Adventure vacations can be very broadly defined. What some people may seem as adventurous, others may view as boring. On the other end of the scale, what some see as an exciting adventure, others may see as terrifying. When choosing an adventure vacation, it is important to consider what type of activities you enjoy and what your personal limits are. Decide on How Adventurous You Really Are

A trek in a remote part of the Andes Mountain in South America may sound exciting but are you willing to sacrifice some luxuries in order to enjoy your adventure? For some people, even though they're fit and active, the absence of flush toilets is inconceivable. If this is you, then you may want to reconsider wilderness type adventures where there are few modern facilities. It's also essential that you know your personal limitations. Most adventurous activities require a moderate to excellent level of physical fitness. If you haven't been to the gym for more than six months and can't even jog around the block, it would be foolish to think you can scale a mountain peak. On the other hand, if you are the sporting type and lead a lifestyle that is active, you will have more options available to you.

Regardless of what type of vacation you are planning to take, using a reputable tour company will go a long way to ensuring your vacation is a memorable one. Pace yourself so you still get to appreciate the destination you are visiting. Plan to do activities for just half a day or take every alternate day off so your body has time to rest and recover, and you can enjoy some more leisurely sightseeing.

An adventure vacation need not only be based on physical activity. Sometimes just exploring and experiencing a foreign culture is an adventure in itself. Take a safari in Tanzania or Botswana, for example. For many foreign visitors to Africa, that is considered an adventure of a lifetime. You get to see the wildlife and also experience a taste of the traditional local culture. In South America, you could tour the villages in Bolivia or experience the vibrant culture of Argentina. In France, you could go barging on the canals, and in the Far East, you could enjoy a train trip into the rural areas. Remember that adventure is a very personal experience so make it yours.
