Brilliant! You've put together the greatest video/article/podcast etc your niche has ever seen
. Now you might as well start spending the money that's inevitably gonna follow; right? Wrong! Great content is useless unless people see it!
Let me drive this point home a little. Google your niche. Go to between page ten or twenty of that search and open some pages. Often you'll find sites this far off in the search that actually have good layout and decent substance. Some may even be better than the sites coming up top of the search.
The only reason for this is because the sites far down in the search haven't been marketed as well as the sites coming up on top! Getting a high search rank is all about search engine optimization; which simply means making content that's likely to come up high in searches. Bear in mind on average 80% of a sites traffic comes from search engines! Knowing the best keywords (search terms) to use is a vital element of search engine optimization.
The good news is it's quite easy to find the best keywords to help you get high search results! Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a free to use tool that gives you results of searches made in google in the last month. You type in the word or term that you'd like to create content about (something from your niche). Next hit search and see what results google gives back. For example type in bodybuilding and you might get back bodybuilding routine. These are actually real searches made in google and the search statistics to go with them. This information is extremely helpful in choosing the right keyword!
Next you have to choose the best keywords to use from the suggestions you are given. I like to pick keywords within the 8,000 and 30,000 global monthly search volume. Within this range you know there are a lot of searches being made for the term but the competition may not be as high as for the terms with very high search volumes. Check out my other articles on how to use these keywords.
