Acoustic guitars have been a staple in music for many years

. From rock, and blues to country and gospel the acoustic guitar has made it's home among musicians of every genre. What makes a good acoustic guitar though?

Typically a custom, or highly quality production type will sound better than the cheaper mass produced kinds, however there are a wide variety of factors that create each guitars sound.

The first aspect that impacts your guitars sound is the type of wood the body is made from. Alder, ash, ebony, and rosewood are some of the most popular woods used in the construction of an acoustic guitar, however there are a large section that have been built from many other types of wood. Finding the correct sound for you will decide what wood your guitar is made from.

The keys which tighten and loosen strings also have a great impact on the sound of the instrument. Typically keys that have a higher gear ratio will allow for finer tuning of the guitar, thus giving it a greater, and more accurate range of sound.

The neck of the guitar is often considered one of the most personal parts of the instrument, and your acoustic guitars neck should fit comfortably in your hand. A neck that is too wide, or too thin will impact your ability to play, thus reducing the quality of the sound. Most often necks are sized in comparison to the body, but trial and error is the only sure fire way to find a fit.
