Choosing The Right Flammable Storage Cabinet

If you have flammable liquids, these have to be stored properly to keep safe

. Flammable storage cabinets have been devised in such a way to provide the proper conditions to avoid accidents with the liquids. With these cabinets, the risk of serious personal injury and/or damage to property and equipment is significantly reduced. Today, there are several types of Flammable Storage Cabinets for you to choose from.

Metal Cabinets

Made from at least 18 gauge iron sheets, metal storage cabinets are considered to be the best in preventing injuries and damage to properties. One of their most important safety features is double walls with at least an inch of air space in between. This prevents fire from expanding further. The doors on the other hand feature a 3 point lock as well as riveted or welded joints. Although not required by the National Fire Prevention Association Code 30, venting is also advisable but it should only be located at the bottom and directs to the outside.

Wooden Cabinets

Another type of Flammable Storage Cabinets is made from wood. They are constructed using 1 inch high grade plywood. This will not easily break or delaminate in case of fire. The joints of wooden cabinets are fastened and rebated from both directions using flathead screws.

All metal and wooden storage cabinets are required by law to pass a fire test. This is conducted for 10 minutes and to pass, internal temperature of the cabinets should not exceed 325 degrees Fahrenheit. At the same time, all seals must remain tight and the door secure.

Capacities

The maximum storage capacities of Flammable Storage Cabinets would depend on the type of chemicals stored. For Class I and Class II chemicals, no more than 60 gallons are permitted. For Class III however, up to 120 gallons are allowed.
