Choosing The Right Furniture
Too many people make bad furniture choices
Too many people make bad furniture choices. They opt for impractical, expensive or just plain ugly items. People are often quick to go to a furniture store and hastily select the first item they see thinking the choice is not of much consequence. What they forget is that they will be using this piece of furniture for the next few years, maybe even over a decade. Making the wrong choices can lead to frustration or costly trips to furniture stores for replacement pieces.
When choosing a couch you have many things to consider. The first are any aesthetic concerns. The simplest choice is a plain, dark colored couch. This won't get stained and usually won't clash with the room you put it in. The problem is it is a bit boring and predictable. You can go for a brighter color but it may be a bit more polarizing. You also may have trouble fitting it into a new room should you move. If you have people over often you will want to get a pull out couch.
When shopping at a bedroom furniture store you can be bolder in your aesthetic choices. Most guests probably won't be spending time in your bedroom so it more important that you like it. Keep in mind however, that intense colors can wear on you or affect your emotions. Most people will tell you to avoid bright reds even if red happens to be your favorite color. If the walls are a bright color you should buy more neutrally colored items from bedroom furniture stores. This will tamp down some of the intensity of brightly colored walls.
That same is true in about color coordinating in a bathroom. Since most bathrooms are tiled you cannot exactly re-paint them. Often time's people will move into an apartment but dislike the bathroom, especially if it dates from the 1950s or 60s and features gaudy colors. If you can afford it you can re-tile. If you don't want spend the time and money just go to a furniture store and get some neutral colored accessories. White or light blue towels, bath mats, shower curtains, and wash clothes will draw some attention away from unsightly colors. Any area you can paint, paint with the same neutral tone you have chosen for other bathroom furniture and accessories.
Remember there are many furniture stores with vastly different selections and prices. Make sure to visit multiple furniture stores before making any purchases. This furniture will be in your home for a long time to come so don't rush when choosing it.
