Choosing The Right Hairstyle For Your Face Shape

Mens hairstyles are now more adventurous than ever before

, but to make sure you choose the right style to suit you its important to think about face shape. Some hairstyles flatter different face shapes more than others and this can be a key factor in finding a style that is easy to maintain and looks great.

Square Face Shape

Men with square faces need to look for styles that smooth out lines and creating a narrowing, rounder appearance. Lighter styles with feathering around the jaw line can be very flattering. You can keep these looking masculine and defined by using fudge hair shaper or a light gel. If you are going to opt for facial hair as well then an all over beard that is clipped closely to the face can soften square jaw lines.

Rectangle Face Shape

This face shape is often quite narrow and so to balance out features choose a hairstyle that adds some bulk to the sides of your head. Very close cropped hair can make rectangle heads look even longer and narrow so avoid these and stick to longer cuts. You can also create more width to your features by growing out your beard (for about a week or so) and using clippers to keep it in a neat shape.

Round Face Shape

With a round face shape you need to avoid any hairstyles that are the same length on top and on the sides. These can make your face look even rounder. Instead opt for styles that have some clear definition. This could include a close cropped style which is slightly longer top and lifted up at the front with some hair gel or fudge hair shaper. If you have curly hair then you will need to keep this closely cropped as it could overwhelm your features if left long. You could also try straitening curly hair for a sleeker, more flattering look. A highly stylised circle style beard can also help to define your jaw line and create a more masculine face shape. Avoid side burns as these can make your face look wider.

Triangular Face Shape

Triangular face shapes tend to have very pointed chins. Avoid hairstyles that are chin length as these draw attention to this area. Styles that are heavier on top can draw the eye away from the chin such as a modern spiked look. You could also try growing in a full, well clipped beard around the jaw line and chin to add weight and depth to this area.

Pear Face Shape

This facial shape tends to have a prominent chin. To help balance this out opt for top heavy styles that will add bulk to the upper half of your face. Long sideburns will also help to balance out the line of your larger jaw and chin. A full beard can help to disguise a prominent chin and when combined with a good hairstyle this can balance out the face and create a strong look.
