Choosing The Right Storm Door

There are many benefits storm doors can bring to you and your home

. One of the main reasons for having a storm door is the protection it gives your main door from harsh weather year round, but this is not the only function of a storm door. They can also help to insulate your home by adding another layer of material, so that hot and cool air, depending on the season, cannot escape your home. A storm door can also add a small, extra layer of security because you are able to put locks on it, which adds one more layer that an intruder would need to break through before entering your home. You can even reap more benefits from your storm door depending which style of door you purchase.

Full View

The full view style's most attractive attribute is its ability to let sunlight into your home. The windows can either contain glass or screen panels, but they are unable to hold both at once, so when summer comes along and you want to let a breeze come through your entryway, you will have to take out the glass panels and store them to make room for the screen panels. If you do not intend to switch your panels often or live in a place where the weather remains the same and switching out panels is unnecessary, the full view style storm door may be a good choice for your home because of the amount of light and fresh air it allows into your home.

Ventilating

Another kind of storm door you can install is the ventilation style. This option does not offer as much openness as the full view style, but it does offer more utility in that you can easily switch from glass to screen panels without having to remove or store any extras. These doors are made with a glass panel, a screen panel, and a third glass panel that can shift up and down to uncover or block the screen panel. Although neither position will offer as much entry of light or fresh air into your home as the full view style, if you are apt to be switching often due to frequent weather changes, the ventilating screen door offers less work for similar results.

Roll Screen

The roll screen door is a new style of storm door that offers the benefits of both the full view and ventilating style doors. Similar to the ventilating door, a roll screen door often contains two glass panels that can be moved up or down to allow air flow, but it does not include a secondary screen panel. It does, however, feature a screen that can be pulled down to cover and protect the door from unwanted pests. The roll screen comes in different variations, but it often works much like window blinds that can be pulled up and down from a roll. It does offer more benefits than the other styles do on their own, but it is the more expensive style, so think about what options are best for you and your budget when purchasing a storm door for your home.
