Usually before entering the college or university future students and their parents are involved in the selection process. This process includes choosing among several colleges and defining the best one. They come to different colleges and find out whether it is suitable or not. The criteria considered before any college is applied to include: Average GPA, SAT I, class position for acceptance Size, location of the school, as it should be suitable for attending Percentage of financial require met Different campus opportunities Meal plans and dietary situations met Name recognition Well-qualified teacher staff Freshman cars availability Handicap convenience Cost of the sheepskin Also it is preferable to know if the school uses a need-blind or need-sensitive admissions policy. Need-blind is policy where the student is evaluated without any view to family income or assets. Need-sensitive is appalling policy used by a mass of elite schools such as Duke and Emory. In essence, the rich family has bought ticket of admission to the schools where their student might never have been admitted. Parents and student have to visit the potential schools in order to know all the advantages and disadvantages. The next important step is to confirm that the school is open and there will be someone ready to ask all the questions. Ask all the questions and be an attentive listener. If it is possible take all the papers containing the information that is necessary. Student athletes can have a meeting with a coach or two. Listen to the school radio station and make a copy of the campus newspaper. Future students should know everything in details in order not to hesitate before entering when it is time. Also students should firmly decide the profession and courses they want to attend and know everything about them, including information about professors and time of courses.
