About the SmartLipo Laser
Heat and light are two sides of the same energy, whether it is storm lightning, a reading light, sunshine, or any other type of light/heat source. All laser lights emit heat as well as light. Lasers are unlike all other sources of heat or light, in that they are directional and focused. If you think of your vehicle's headlights or a flashlight, for example, they both give off scattered light. Compare those with a classroom laser pointer to see the difference.
Being highly focused, lasers concentrate on a small area, and the SmartLipo laser is particularly tiny (one to two millimeters in diameter).
Special Skill Required For the SmartLipo Laser
All medical-grade lasers are made so as to keep their heat safely low and not cause burns, and they require specific skill in a cosmetic surgeon. Since SmartLipo only received FDA approval in November, 2006, not all cosmetic surgeons are well-acquainted with it yet. That means you need to be careful in choosing your SmartLipo surgeon.
The SmartLipo laser is not inserted deeply. It is used in the skin's second layer, the dermis. This is so near the surface that you can see its red light flashing and your liposuction surgeon can see clearly where he is placing it.
If you had SmartLipo performed by someone not fully trained for it and not very well-acquainted with the required laser movement, you could sustain skin burns.
