Choosing the Right Fishing Rod
Fishing Rods come in all different shapes and sizes
. Depending on the type of fishing that you do, you may need a different kind of rod. One of the most popular and familiar types of fishing rods out there is the fly rod. Many advanced fishers have moved away from the typical cast and reel varieties and have moved towards fly fishing. When using a fly rod you will want to make sure that the fly line matches the rod so that you can get the best performance out of the rod while casting. This helps you maintain control of the rod while participating in the sport.
One way that fishing rods have involved is made clear with fly rods that are used for bass fishing. These rods are rated according to their weight which could be anywhere from 1wt all the way up to 15wt. Typically graphite rods are used for bass fishing, although other materials are also available. You can get specifications by just looking at the rod. For instance it will tell you how long the rod is, how much it weighs, and what weight of line that you are able cast.
One good way to go about choosing weights in a rod is based on the kinds of fish you are trying to pick up. Weights 2 through 5 are usually used for light and medium trout. Weights 6 through 7 would be good for heavier trout and bass. If you go higher than that then you are likely to be fine to catch bass and steelhead as well as pike, muskie, and much more.
Another thing to look for in fishing rods is their action, whether it is fast, medium, or slow. A slow rod will have energy that progressively moves from the tip to the butt end. The fast rod, on the other hand, flexes first at the tip of the rod and then moves to about the first third of the length of the rod. A medium action pole will goes from tip to about halfway.
