Choosing your first iPhone

Choosing your first iPhone

There is so much choice when it comes to choosing your first iPhone. From 3G S to iPhone 4, 16GB to 32GB. Which one is right for you? This article attempts to demystify the options and help you make an informed decision.

iPhone 3G

The iPhone 3G was launched in July 2008, it was the latest and greatest in design and technology at the time, now it is something that you can pick up cheaper than the current model and is still a great phone.

Pro's Cheap to pick up now second hand, fast phone if running OS 3.0 3.1.3, can be easily jailbroken.

Con's No video camera, no multi tasking support, runs slow with iOS 4.0 and greater, no flash, no FaceTime.

iPhone 3G S

The iPhone 3G S was introduced in July 2009, the difference between the 3G and 3G S wasn't great and so a lot of people didn't upgrade between the two, if people were investing in their first iPhone the 3G S was definitely the model of choice though.

Pro's Faster than the 3G, full support for iOS 4.0 and above, video camera, improved battery life.

Con's No flash, no FaceTime support, more expensive than 3G with no design change.

iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 came in July 2010, this was a complete redesign from Apple, a brand new look and lots of exciting features.

Pro's Fastest iPhone to date, HD video camera, FaceTime, 5.0MP camera with integrated flash.

Con's Glass back which is another place to break easily, expensive to repair, problems with signal without a case.

16GB

If you use your iPhone a lot, download the latest App's, have a good few albums, your entire photo collection and your emails linked to it this is the size for you. They are very space conscious devices and surprisingly you will tend to have more space than you suspect.

32GB

If you use your iPhone as above but also decide you need to carry around a lot of movies then you may decide you need the 32GB. Most people may feel they need the largest capacity iPhone but in practice most can suffice with the 16GB unless you need to carry a lot films round with you.

All iPhones are expensive devices that people carry round all day long in their everyday life and so from time they break. From cracked iPhone screens, water damage, home button issues and much more. The iPhone 4 now brings the problems have having a glass front and back so doubles the chances of cracking it.
