Chota Char Dham: A Yatra To Divinity

Chota Char Dham commonly known as Char Dham is journey to four abodes

. It can also be understood as the small circuit of four abodes. Char Dham yatra is a critical Hindu pilgrimage circuit in the Himalayan range. Situated in the Garhwal section of the state of Uttrakhand, Char Dham is composed of four sites namely Sri Yamunotri Dham, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Badrinath is the common destination between Chota Char Dham and normal Char Dham. The aforementioned sites are unique in own fashion and draw attention of devotees and tourists across the world.

There is no certain myth fixed to the origins to Char Dham. Formation of char dham was done by great 8th century philosopher and spiritual guru shankaracharya. Badrinath is one of the most important pillars of the char dham and a journey without Badrinath means every effort going in vain. Char Dham includes representatives from all three major Hindu sectarian traditions that are as follows: two Shakta(goddess) sites, (Yamunotri and Gangotri), one Shaiva site (Kedarnath), and one Vaishnava site (Badrinath).

Char dham yatra earlier was very tough to begin. The roads and commutation options were very tough. Things used to get more difficult in an event of landslide or any calamity. Lack of modern communication kept a large number of devotees at bay. However, modernisation did wonders for Char dham. The yatra became more comfortable with better roads and quality accommodation facilities. Online and global promotion and advertisement helped the governments to present Char dham as an international tourism event. A fabulous pitching of char dham circuits helped Uttaranchal state make lot of money through tourism. It even coined a new concept of religious tourism. Today the state heavily depends on this religious tour for earning.

There are many travel websites and tour operators who brought more interest into char dham. And they made sure char dham attracts modern urban classes as well. As per observation, there is a good number of urban people turning up for char dham.
