Christmas is the most wide-spread festival in the world

. It transcends the physical limitations of geography to be a universal festival. It is celebrated with great vigor across the globe. Every region has some indigenous elements but there are things that remain the same, that reflect the Christian traditions. Christians all around across the globe erect the trees and decorate them with lights. They decorate their homes within and without and celebrate the festival with family and friends. Santa Claus has become a global phenomenon; children all over the world eagerly await the arrival of their beloved Santa and get their socks filled with gifts that they have been dreaming about all year.

Attending the midnight mass with family and cooking a sumptuous Christmas meal is what people tend to do in Christmas around the world. Telling stories of the infant Christ and the Nativity is what people generally indulge in. Distribution of gifts and family gatherings is a perpetual Christmas tradition. Christmas all over the world is celebrated all through December till the New Year. In the U.S. Christmas traditions are varied as they have immigrants from all over the world. America has a lot of European settlers and it tells on, the way Christmas is celebrated in the U.S. People in pockets of the U.S. also celebrate the Christmas by Mumming. Christmas celebrations in Europe and America have a lot of similarities, similarities in the way the traditions are followed and celebrated.

In South America, there are posada processions, reliving the Christmas story of Joseph and Mary looking for a room in hostelry. These posada processions include children and adults, the kids move around asking for rooms but are denied to eventually be called in and they all celebrate with food and fire-crackers. Posada parties are held at different homes each day and get the whole community together. However, children get their presents much after the Christmas Eve. Different countries have unique Christmas traditions and that is the essence of the festival of Christmas around the world.

Christmas in Asia is celebrated by the considerable amount of Christians who inhabit the various regions. Most of Christmas items are made in China but it has only 1% of its population as Christians. Christmas is celebrated regionally in China. People light trees and streets to elevate the Christmas spirit. India has a 30 million Christians and attending the midnight mass is one of the most important aspects of celebrations. They sing prayers in their regional languages to honor the birth of the Christ. Love and joy of the undying spirit reflects through the celebrations of Christmas all around the world.
