Ah Christmas, the time for giving and receiving of gifts

, but for some of us the giving is not as easy as the receiving. Coming up with ideas as for what to get our loved ones can be tricky, especially when they do not drop helpful unsubtle hints as to what they may like.

Christmas presents are great when they are exactly what the recipient would like, but when they didnt know they wanted it in the first place, or that the item even existed. Of course this is not straightforward.

A second best option is to get a gift that a person wants, but does not feel they can justify such a purchase on themselves. The kind of item theyd pick up in shops, look at for what seems an age, but cant get that nagging feeling out of their mind that it is an unnecessary expense, so put it back on the shelves only to then spend the rest of the day regretting their decision.

You can apply this strategy to buying confectionary and drinks as presents, by selecting the finest version in the range to give the recipient a real treat at Christmas time. A bottle of fine wine or an extra-aged bottle of whiskey for your dad or granddad would be well received, while a box of luxury chocolates that would normally be such an indulgence would go down well with everyones mum. On a similar theme, try located a local producer of home-made jams and chutneys as a gift for a grandma.

This idea can also work well with buying fancy candles and fragrances, which really do deliver compared of smell and durability compared with the cheaper alternatives.

But these are hardly original present ideas, so how about something personalised, such as a completed photo album with your best pictures, or go one better and make a book containing memories. This would be a very romantic gift to give your partner. Is it also easy to get personalised mugs and t-shirts made, which will be appreciated well after the Christmas season is over. The options are really endless.
