It is common to store more than one kind of cigar in a humidor, and whether you unwrap them from their cellophane wrapping or not, there is a risk of mixing oils between cigars if they are all mixed together. That is one reason why people choose to separate types of cigars inside their humidor. You should separate your cigars according to type of tobacco.

When you are preparing to create separate divisions for your humidor, consider how many types of cigars you are likely to have at any given moment. You don't want to run out of space! It is also a good idea to think about the size of your box and how you will arrange the dividers.

In a more high tech situation, you may have the option to store your different cigars in trays or separate drawers. Remember that the purpose of separating your cigars is to keep the flavors and natural aromas from mixing and becoming dulled by contact. This is less likely to happen if your cigars are still wrapped in their original cellophane. Bare cigars should absolutely never be stored so that they are touching, because the stronger flavored cigars will mix and mar the weaker flavors in your set.

Season your dividers before you install them in your humidor. You can do this by wiping them down carefully with distilled water and sealing them in an airtight container for several days. You should periodically remove the dividers and wipe them down again with distilled water. It is important that you use distilled water because it doesn't have any chemicals, bacteria, or minerals in the water that may clog your system and corrupt your flavors.
