Cincinnati Bearcats Football Tickets - No. 5 Cincy Defeats Syracuse 28-7

Zach Collaros threw four touchdown passes, the Cincinnati defense forced two critical

turnovers and the fifth-ranked Bearcats remained undefeated with a 28-7 victory over Syracuse. Get Cincinnati Bearcats football tickets and see Collaros throw a TD pass. Collaros, who started in his second game in place of injured quarterback Tony Pike, finished 22-of-28 for 295 yards and no turnovers.

Always a threat to run, the quarterback picked up only 22 yards on nine carries. Instead, Collaros used his strong arm to inflict the damage. He has completed 47-of-63 passes (75 percent) for 749 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception this season. The quarterback has also rushed for 213 yards and two more scores. Bearcats coach Brian Kelly praised his QB, stating that he understands everything that happens on the field.

Collaros connected with Armon Binns on scoring passes of 81 and 13 yards off scrambles. He also hooked up with Kazeem Alli for 16 yards off a botched field goal, and hit Adrien Robinson for a four-yard TD pass as Cincinnati (8-0, 4-0 Big East) won its 14th-straight regular season game to remain in the hunt for the BCS national championship. Kelly told the press that Collaros "is not a drop-your-eyes scrambler." The coach continued to say that his quarterback kept his eyes downfield even when Collaros was flushed out of the pocket.

The Bearcats are just one win away from their best start in school history (the 1951 team won nine straight to begin the season). Cincinnati has not coughed up the ball this season and remains the only team in the nation not to lose a fumble.

Meanwhile, Syracuse (3-5, 0-3 Big East) shot themselves in the foot with their costly turnovers. In the second quarter, Cincinnati's Drew Frey picked off Greg Paulus's pass in the end zone and defensive tackle Derek Wolfe recovered a fumble late in the third. Frey stated that the Orange was driving on his team and they needed some type of spark. By the time Syracuse got down in the red zone Frey was able to read Paulus's eyes and came up with the interception. The ball was intended for Orange wide receiver Mike Williams. Although Williams and Mardy Gilyard entered the contest 1-2 in the Big East receiving, the duo were hardly noticed in the game. Gilyard caught six passes for 62 yards, while Williams was held to 34 yards on four passes.

Collaros threw three touchdown passes and only two incompletions in his first college start last week in a 41-10 rout over Louisville. Against Syracuse, Collaros managed to get away from their defenders and found wide open receivers most of the day. Paulus finished 12-of-17 for 85 yards. He connected with Cody Catalina on a nine-yard touchdown strike, but Paulus heard a round of boos because of his errant throw. The quarterback said he got the team downfield and executed the way his coaches wanted him to. He added that the Orange was unable to "close the deal" against a red-hot Cincinnati team.
