Cincinnati Bengals Tickets - Cardiac Cats Defeat Ravens 17-14
Carson Palmer hit Andre Caldwell with a 20-yard touchdown pass with 22 seconds left of the game
, and the Cincinnati Bengals edged the Baltimore Ravens 17-14. Get Cincinnati Bengals tickets and see Palmer throw a TD pass. All five of the Bengals' games this season have been decided by seven points or fewer. Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis claimed his team can win "no matter what the circumstances are."
The Bengals (4-1) looked like they were going to lose until Palmer masterfully engineered the final drive - with the help of three yellow drives. An official threw a flag on Baltimore's Chris Carr for illegal contact, Ray Lewis was called for unnecessary roughness and Frank Walker got caught for an interference penalty on third-and-16 from the Ravens' 30. On the next play, Palmer hooked up with Caldwell over the middle for the game-winning score.
Bengals running back Cedric Benson rushed for 120 yards, becoming the first player in 40 games to eclipse 100 yards against the Ravens. Palmer went 18-of-31 for 271 yards, and Chad Ochocinco had seven catches for 94 yards. The Ravens (3-2) have lost two consecutive games after starting 3-0 for the second time in franchise history. In week 4, Baltimore had two roughing the passer calls, which played a big part in a 27-21 defeat at New England. Against Cincinnati, the Ravens were penalized 10 times for 76 yards, and three of those penalties contributed to their loss at the end of the game. But Baltimore did not play well prior to the three penalties. They were limited to one offensive touchdown after averaging 32.5 points in their first four games.
The Ravens' defense also stumbled against the Bengals, yielding 403 yards (142 on the ground). Perhaps Baltimore was not overly critical of the officials because they played poorly. Walker stated that the officials were just calling the game. The cornerback also told the press that Baltimore kept Cincinnati close. The Ravens trailed 10-7 when Ray Rice received a screen pass from Joe Flacco before he headed up the field with several tacklers in his way. The 5-foot-8 running back managed to duck linebacker Brandon Johnson, and he made an outstanding effort to stay upright by planting his fingers on the artificial turf before completing the 48-yard play. In the second quarter, Ed Reed gave Baltimore a 7-0 lead after he returned a 52-yard interception for a touchdown.
In the third quarter, Cincinnati took a 10-7 lead with an 84-yard drive. The Bengals kept that drive alive after Ravens' cornerback Domonique Foxworth was called for illegal contact during a third-down play in which Palmer was sacked. Four plays later, Benson was off to the races as he broke loose for a 28-yard touchdown run. That play gave him over 100 yards rushing for the day. In 2006, Kansas City running back Larry Johnson was the last person to rush 100 yards against Baltimore. The Bengals botched the extra point, but the Ravens were called for illegal formation and Shayne Graham split the uprights on the second try. Cincinnati is 4-2 in Baltimore over the last six years.
