City Living In A Cultural Hotspot

, there is a wide choice of living options, from penthouses apartments, townhouses, converted warehouses, purpose built flats and converted maisonettes. They all offer a different way of living and a range of lifestyle implications that will define the way that you interact with the city. Tower blocks, for example, might have a poor reputation as synonymous with social housing, poverty and violence, but many of them house close-knit communities that look out for each other and have a greater sense of community than many gated villages. The key issue is finding somewhere that will fit in with your type of lifestyle and offer the sort of benefits that you want. An apartment created from a converted townhouse for example, will usually have larger rooms, high ceilings and, perhaps most importantly for some, a garden. Whether this is communal or just specific to one flat rather depends on the nature of the leasehold, but for those who crave a little greenery that they can call their own (even if shared), its the perfect opportunity to get the best of both town and country.

Alternatively, many prefer the low maintenance and easy upkeep that comes with a modern, purpose-built apartment, with its range of new features and integrated living. There are, of course, a wide range of converted flats that have been created from older buildings and these are ideal for those who favour a home with a little more character. They do, of course, come with some drawbacks, most notable of which is the fact that they often have a much higher ground-rent that goes along with the higher costs of maintenance. Moreover, depending on how well the conversion was undertaken, they may not be as well insulated and sound proofed as a purpose-built apartment.

A dockland apartment often combines the best of all worlds: offering great views, along with superb living accommodation and a sense of being slightly more removed from the city. Of course, such luxury can come at a price and depending on where you want to move, you might find that you end up paying a premium for a docklands apartment. However, on the plus side, the value of such properties rarely goes down and as more and more people commit to staying in the city rather than making the traditional move to the countryside in their later years, a docklands apartment makes a great investment.
