Srinagar: Saying clampdown on religious activities by the authorities was unacceptable' to the people of Kashmir Chairman of his faction Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday felt that only solution to the Kashmir issue was to give people the basic right of Right to Self Determination' which according to him was non-negotiable'.
He accused Jammu and Kashmir Police of misleading public opinion' by giving an impression that whatever was happening in the valley was done by the separatists' leaders for monetary benefits.
"We haven't been allowed by the authorities to offer Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid. Government has over the years violated our political, civil and human rights now it is put a clampdown on religious activities. This is unacceptable," he told reporters at his ancestral residence at Rajouri Kadal.
Responding to a question about the statement of veteran journalist and Centre's interlocutor on Kashmir Dilip Padgaonkar in which he had reportedly said PDP's self-rule formula could be one of the solutions to Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said, "The solution under the present frame work isn't possible and Right to Self Determination is only solution and is non-negotiable,"
He favored for a tripartite dialogue to chalk out a resolution for the settlement of Kashmir issue.
According to Agence India Press correspondent, he said that curfew and restrictions have become a policy' of the government like Five year Plan or Annual Budget'.
The clampdown and restrictions, he said, won't stop Hurriyat conference from talking about Kashmir issue in Jamia Masjid.
"Our political ideology is in accordance to our religion, Islam. We want to tell it clearly to the government that restrictions won't stop us from talking about Kashmir issue in Jamia Masjid. Youth should be updated about their tradition, culture and religion," he said adding that keeping separatist leaders under house was government plan to create a gap between the leaders and the people.
"They have no problem they their own sponsored rallies happen but they didn't let us go to the families whose dear ones were martyred during last five months," he said.
He urged people to offer Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid saying, "we can bear anything but not clampdown on our religious activities. No matter what government do we will be offering Friday Prayers in Jamia Masjid."
When asked for his comment about the revelations made by the JKP that Masrat had taken 40 lakh rupees from Geelani to instigate stone pelting, Mirwaiz said, "it is deliberate attempt by the JKP to mislead people. They have been telling the world that whatever is happening in world is done for monetary benefits. Let me tell them that none of 112 civilians sacrificed their lives for economic packages, jobs or money. Authorities should come out of denial mode and accept that Freedom struggle is people's movement." (AIP)
