1. Behind the Green Door: This was the very first hardcore adult movie that was widely released in the United States during the 1970s. Marilyn Chambers stars in this one, and the movie tells the tale about her characters abduction to a sex theater where she is forced to perform all kinds of sexual acts with multiple partners in front of an audience full of masked patrons. The film had a budget to work with of only $60,000 but grossed an impressive $25 million.

2. Deep Throat: One of the most well known adult movies of all time, Deep Throat is about a sexually frustrated woman who enlists the help of her friend to give her advice on how to achieve an orgasm. After she attends a sex party and is still unsatisfied, her friend makes the suggestion that she see a doctor because it might be something medical related. Turns out her friend was right, and the doctor she goes to discovers that her clitoris is located in her throat! This classic film has spawned many variations and re makes.

3. The Devil in Miss Jones. This film was one of the rare adult movies that achieved wide acclaim from the mainstream public. The movie follows a spinster who decides that the only way out of her lonely and miserable existence is to kill herself. However, because she has lived such a pure life, she remains in a kind of limbo state and after a series of events, she is sent back down to earth as the embodiment of lust to claim her spot in hell.

4. The Opening of Misty Beethoven. This film was released in 1975 and was produced with a high budget compared to any other adult film of its time. This movie had a much more elaborate plot than most other pornographic films and was considered to be in the hardcore porn genre.

5. Debbie Does Dallas. This is one of the most famous adult films ever made and it starred Bambi Woods and Christie Ford. The plot of this movie focuses around a team of cheerleaders who are trying to raise enough money to send one of the members to Dallas to audition for the famed Dallas cheerleaders. What happens during the time after that is all in this adult movie!
