Although there are many anti-theft devices available that classic car owners could use to deter thieves, there is an element of vanity in not wanting to spoil the aesthetics of such a vintage motor. Many owners are so proud of their classics that they like to have them on show and even enter them into competitions. Having the vehicles VIN etched into the vehicles windows or fitting anti-theft devices might be a good option for modern cars, but not for award winning classics.

According to a recent survey conducted by Sureterm Direct, one of the largest classic car insurance brokers in the UK, the top 3 most stolen classic vehicles are the Volkswagen Campervan, Volkswagen Beetle and the Nissan Sunny. The same survey revealed that classics from the 90s proved to be the most attractive to car thieves, with over 50% of the claims made relating to some of the most recognised classics of the 90s.

Some things in life are easy enough to replace, but most classic car enthusiasts will tell you that every vintage vehicle plays a unique part in motoring history and is therefore irreplaceable. This makes losing such a valued possession even more upsetting and in the majority of cases the vehicle is either never recovered or it is returned to its owner in poor condition.
