Many of the districts were developed with a characteristic approach to aesthetics, function and value, during a turn-of-the-century movement to create garden suburbs. These historical areas gradually became the established centres of the cities that grew up around them. Throughout the years, these neighbourhoods have retained their exclusive allure and elegance, and their proximity to nearby amenities ensures a continuing balance between timeless charm and modern convenience.

One of the neighbourhoods that we feature on our site includes Cabbagetown, Toronto. This neighbourhood is located within the eastern side of downtown Toronto. It is home the the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian housing in all of North America. Another neighbourhood that is featured on Classic Neighbourhoods is West Galt. This section of Cambridge is comprised of one of the oldest sections of the city of Galt. Sprawled across the Grand River with a lot of Victorian style houses through the residential areas, this city is a great location to visit.

Yet another neighbourhood that is featured within our site is the city of Rosedale. This neighbourhood, which is situated in Toronto, was formerly the estate of William Botsford Jarvis. The city was named after the fact that an abundance of wild roses grew though out the city. It is located north of the downtown of Toronto. It is also one of the oldest suburbs within Canada. Rosedale has been built among three ravines, which have been preserved as parklands around the city. Many of the homes within this city are single family detached dwellings. There is a much higher pedestrian traffic flow than vehicle traffic throughout the city.

The more recent and forthcoming of our featured locales are the exquisite creations of New Urbanism. Through a philosophy which values place-making and sustainability, this significant planning initiative seeks to improve on our preexisting environments through the creation of more attractive, pedestrian-oriented communities that enrich the spirit and present captivating places worth living in. The new urbanism movement is highly influenced by urban design standards that were the most prominent ideas until the rise of the automobile.
