Classic Tv Programs Recognized At The Tv Land Awards

The 2010 TV Land Awards, hosted by Tim Allen, was a star studded event featuring some of television's most beloved actors and actresses

. Favorite stars from across generations were in attendance, from Betty White to the cast of the recent hit series Glee. Popular television shows were honored in a variety of categories, such as the Fan Favorite Award and the Future Classic Award.

The beloved program The Love Boat was recognized as this year's TV Land Fan Favorite. Starring Gavin MacLeod and Bernie Kopell, the show revolved around the lives of those aboard The Pacific Princess, a lavish cruise ship that seemed to have more challenges in a week than most ships see in a year. While it was on the air, The Love Boat was nominated for two Emmys and four Golden Globes.

Younger audience members were surely thrilled that the trendy new show Glee was honored as this year's Future Classic. The wildly successful series follows the trials and tribulations of a high school choir trying to save their program by winning a national title. The witty writing and eye catching musicals numbers make Glee completely distinct from other new shows on television.

The prominent Legend Award for this year went to two men who are widely regarded as kings of classic comedy, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner. Reiner earned his place as a television legend by writing The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Mel Brooks is famous for writing numerous comedies, including Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and the hit Broadway musical The Producers.

The show that was awarded for having the biggest influence on Pop Culture was the 1970's hit Charlie's Angels. Charlie's Angels was not only a classic TV show, but it spun off into two hit films starring Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. Co-stars Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd accepted the award without their late costar, Farrah Fawcett.

The cast of the popular comedy Everybody Loves Raymond was honored with the TV Land Impact Award, with stars Brad Garrett and Ray Romano on hand to accept. They were lucky enough to be presented with their award by TV legend Bob Newhart. During its nine year run, the show was nominated for over one hundred awards and won forty-nine of them.

The show that was honored for its 30th anniversary at the ceremony this year was the 1980's sitcom Bosom Buddies. Jay Leno was there to present the award to the show, which ran on ABC from 1980 to 1982 and in reruns on NBC during the summer of 1984. Accepting the award was the show's decided breakout star, Academy Award winner Tom Hanks. The many celebrities present made the night a success; I can only assume the same will be true for Idol Gives Back 2010.
