Cleaning a Wood Cabinet

Over time, grease, grime and dirt gather on the kitchen cabinet

. Normally, kitchen cabinet has to be cleaned once a year in order to prevent excess buildup of these particles on the exterior. If your cabinet is made of wood, only products specially made safe for wood exteriors should be used.

Mild Dish-washing Liquid

Reduce a cup of dish-washing liquid with the 2 cups of warm water. It will create a warm soapy liquid that will easily be used with a sponge on the wood exterior. It will not break the wood exterior. And then, the soap will cut through the gathered grease and grime. You can use a nonabrasive sponge or even wipe when applying the solution to the cabinet.

Vinegar or Baking Soda

You can use straight vinegar on a sponge in order to wipe the cabinet clean also clear away excess buildup. Vinegar will not harm wood exteriors, and it is a safe way of cleaning a lot of everyday household places. For really tough buildups, a paste of baking soda and warm water can also be used. Add 1 tbsp. of baking soda to 2 tbsps. of warm water and then mix well. Use the mix with a nonabrasive wipe or brush in order to remove the buildup from the cabinets. Baking soda is also a safe way of cleaning wood and other surfaces in the home.

Paint Remover

In very hard cleaning jobs, you can try using paint remover on the cabinet. Carry out a spot test on the hidden section of the wood cabinet before you are applying it to all of the cabinets. If your cabinet has a finish or has been painted, the paint thinner can remove it totally and will break the wood cabinet. However, paint remover can successfully remove dirt, grease and grime. When you are working with this product, wear the respirator mask. Then, you have to make sure, too, in order to keep the paint remover away from heat, as it is highly flammable.
